SMILE Podcast research and initial ideas
Podcast
This podcast will be focusing on skateboarding and its
effect on mental health. The purpose is to raise awareness of what skating means
to people and how much of an impact it can actually have on their mental
health, which I think is a commonly overlook fact. Its function is it informs
and entertain listeners. It is educational because it will highlight less talked
about subjects and can raise awareness of how important good mental health is
to people’s day to day lives. I hope that the podcast will shine a new light on
skateboarding and change its overall image in the media as something pointless
and childish.
I plan on structuring it so that the podcast will have an
introduction which basically lets the listener know what the podcast is going
to be about, what I will be discussing and why I will be discussing it. I will
go onto a questionnaire section and build a talking point for myself on these
questions. I will then move onto a conclusion and eventually an outro.
From producing a pilot episode, I have learned that creating
a podcast requires a good level of preparation to make it run smoothly with
minimal issues and It is important to have a solid plan/script.
Target audience.
I am aiming the podcast at people who are struggling with mental
health and looking for some advice/guidance on how to deal with it better. I want
this podcast to really speak to them and relate to them. This can make them
feel less alone/lost as they have someone/something to relate to.
Materials and equipment.
I will be using a large diaphragm condenser microphone such
as a Rode NT1A. this type of microphone is the best for podcast production because
is uses a carcinoid solar pattern which is very useful at eliminating unwanted
background noise and produces clean, smooth audio. This is a better option than
a dynamic microphone as they produce a lower output, making them more suitable for
recording loud sounds such as drums and guitar.
I will be using a pop filter on the microphone to reduce the
risk of low frequency rumbles and interference from plosive sounds.
I will be using an audio interface to convert the audio files
from the microphone into the computer smoothly. I can also turn the gain, bass
and volume up or down to produce the best sound possible. This will let me control
and prevent the volume from being too high/too low.
I will be using garage band to edit the podcast as it is an
easy and intuitive programme to use and I am already familiar with it’s tools
and features. Garage band also has a built in equalizer which will let me edit
problems in the audio such as rumbling and interference.
