SMILE Podcast production- Self evaluation

SMILE Campaign final evaluation

For the pre production for my podcast I analysed the target audience so i can identify who i am aiming to reach and how i can do so effectively. materials and equipment so i can have a general idea of what type of equipment i am using, why i should use it and what they do. This was important because it allowed me to make the podcast the best audio quality possible.  i thought up and wrote down my initial ideas so i can visualise my product before i made it, giving me room to make any changes necessary to the overall structure of my idea. i did  existing product research, involving podcasts which also line up with my target audience so i can identify codes and conventions of podcasts to figure out what to include and what not to include . I highlighted why i think the podcast is appropriate for the target audience in order to identify what i can do to relate to them. i highlighted my intentions and what i hoped to achieve with the podcast.

For recording audio i used a RODE N12A condenser microphone with a RODE pop filter. from doing research i know that the N12A is the best option for podcast production because it is a condenser microphone designed to record soft sounds which would produce a smooth recording. I used a pop filter to filter out any interference from plosive sounds. i recorded the audio on Logic Pro X and exported it to a memory stick.

I recorded using Logic as it is a more intuitive and simple programme than garage band. I cut and trimmed the audio so there is no long silences at the beginning and ending of the podcast. I downloaded and imported an audio track Logic as i found in the existing product
research, background music is really useful at keeping audience attention as after a while, just hearing people talk gets boring. I exported the audio to Premier Pro where i can take advantage of the many audio features the programme offers such as advanced equalizers and audio effects.

effects.
I used the audio fade feature so i can ease the audio out instead of just ending it without warning, making a more pleasant listening experience for the viewer. i did this by selecting experimental fade feature from the  audio transition section to make the audio fade out. i also selected the dip to black feature to fade out the smile face in sync with the audio.

I have gained valuable skills using recording equipment such as setting up microphones,
testing and maintaining sound levels, how to set up and adjust a sound card and using
recording/editing software such as Logic Pro X. I have also gained skills in importing and exporting audio in appropriate formats for video sharing websites such as YouTube.

I think my podcast was effective at achieving it's goal in spreading awareness about mental health. I think it speaks well to the target audience and does a good job at capturing and keeping attention.
